Google has unveiled a major update to Android Auto, bringing back the full refresh experience with widgets, animations, and immersive maps. This update includes Material 3 Expressive, which adds expressive fonts and wallpapers, along with widgets like favorite contacts, garage doors, and weather overviews. Google also introduced Immersive Maps, featuring a 3D view of roads, traffic lights, and stop signs. Video playback through YouTube has been enhanced, allowing users to watch at 60fps when stopped and switching to audio-only mode. Dolby Atmos support is coming next. Additionally, Android Auto now includes Gemini Intelligence, a feature that helps users manage tasks in the car using AI, such as checking status lights or ordering food from Doordash. These upgrades aim to improve the overall driving experience. While the first cars to see these features are already available, future updates will expand on these improvements. Google emphasizes that these changes are part of a larger effort to enhance connectivity and user convenience across vehicles.
