A tragic incident has occurred in the French Alps, where a British skier lost his life due to an avalanche. Reports indicate that the individual, believed to be in his fifties, was skiing outside of designated areas at La Plagne when the disaster struck.
According to a statement released by the resort, around 1:57 PM on Sunday, they received an alert regarding the avalanche. This prompted immediate action from rescue teams, who swiftly arrived at the scene located in southeastern France.
The rescue operation involved a significant effort, with approximately 52 individuals participating, including medical personnel, ski instructors, and even a specially trained avalanche dog that was deployed via helicopter. After an intense search lasting about 50 minutes, the skier was found buried under 2.5 meters of snow.
It was noted that he was part of a group during the time of the avalanche but was not equipped with an essential safety device known as an avalanche transceiver, nor was he accompanied by a professional instructor. In light of this unfortunate event, La Plagne expressed its condolences and support for the family of the deceased.
